A Medic Explores Miracles and Healings, Part 4
By Dr Mark Houghton MB, BS (Lond.), MRCGP
Hello, my friend. This is my most encouraging report so far. I’ll begin with a video testimony from session five of Andrew Wommack’s course.
Healing Story (Part One)
Johan Toet tells how his wife found him seriously ill with yellow fever in Brazil. He was airlifted back home to Holland, where the doctor advised him to put his affairs in order because he would likely die.
Andrew’s Critical Insight
Andrew Wommack then recounts how in 1964, he discovered something that transformed his effectiveness: God designed us as spirit, soul and body. We are three-part beings, which is critical to success in Christian healing.
The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless.” When we are born again our mind and body do not instantly change, but our spirit is created brand new, complete for eternity, as complete and perfect as Jesus is. The Holy Spirit brings Jesus to live in our body in direct fellowship with our own spirit, so the fullness of the godhead dwells in us. Healing is not “out there somewhere”, but happens when what you already have in you is released into powerful action.
What exactly is the soul, we might ask? The soul is our thinking mind, our intentional will and our felt emotions. Although our spirit is instantly restored at conversion, our soul and body take longer to come under the lordship of Christ. Even St Paul said, “I [still] do the things I do not want to do and don’t do the things I should do.” The great news is, once we get all the “ducks in line”, wonderful things happen to our souls and bodies. For instance, when I made Jesus Lord of my life, my IQ went up considerably. Let’s join up the ducks for health, and live as healthy humans under a hierarchy with Christ as head of our lives. He speaks to our spirit, who speaks to our soul and body. We see this in Johan’s emergency.
Johan Showed Faith
He understands from the doctor that his body is facing death. His heart could be filled with fear, but being spirit guided will lead us away from that. Johan decides to feed himself with the life-giving word of God and reads promises from Jesus like, “If my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:17). These words bring faith riding in. Johan uses his will, and chooses to ask for life rather than death. His emotions (soul) fill up with confident faith. His spirit announces through his soul that his body will be well and not die, not through his own strength, but through looking to Jesus who bought him life on the cross.
What Happened to Johan?
The yellow fever departed, his strength returned, and he went back to the gym. On the hospital ward he took a selfie with doctors crowding around. Later, he spoke to many doctors about the miracle and how God had given him faith in his spirit to heal his body. Why don’t you try that on your next health challenge? Let’s assume it will be something easier than yellow fever!
